Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+)
Insurance program jointly funded by state and federal government that provides health coverage to low-income children and pregnant women in families who earn too much income to qualify for Medicaid but can’t afford to purchase private health insurance coverage. Colorado’s CHP+ program is administered by the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.

Medicaid
A state-administered health insurance program for low-income families and children. The Federal government provides a portion of the funding for Medicaid and sets guidelines for the program. States also have choices in how they design their program, so Medicaid varies state by state. Colorado’s Medicaid is administered by the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.

Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (also known as the PPACA or ACA, sometimes called Obamacare)
A 2010 federal law intended to increase the availability and affordability of health insurance for Americans while reducing the overall costs of health care. The law accomplishes this via mandates, subsidies, and tax credits for individuals and businesses. Many of the law’s most significant provisions, including expanded Medicaid availability and a new private insurance marketplace, will take effect on January 1, 2014.
